Let‘s Talk About Obesity Care

Dr. Carrie Gordon talks with Dr. Pete Amann about the effectiveness of current obesity therapies, provider/patient conversations around referrals to an obesity specialist, and creating more optimism around obesity care. 

Carrie talks with Dr. Melissa Keeport, a pediatrician with Lincoln Medical Partners, part of LincolnHealth and MaineHealth. They discuss the safe and appropriate use of anti-obesity medications in pediatric primary care practice. 

Carrie speaks with Emily Kain, Program Manager with the Center for Health Improvement at MaineHealth, and Laura Vinal, Community Health & Hunger Manager with the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Maine. They discuss both hunger and food insecurity in Maine, and how they're working together to mitigate it.

Carrie speaks with Jillian O'Brien, MS, OTR-L, owner and president of Pediatric Development Center in Westbrook, Maine about helping patients with selective eating challenges.  They discuss underlying causes and helpful tools for parents of selective eaters.  Patients with selective eating can increase diet variety over time, but effective strategies are not always intuitive and are not routinely taught as part of medical training. 

Carrie speaks with Dr. Michele LaBotz, a pediatrician and sports medicine physician at Intermed in South Portland, Maine.  They discuss the health benefits of physical activity, introduce physical literacy, and tips for health providers to facilitate more discussion with patients.
